Boron chemistry

Boron, element no. 5, is a fascinating and challenging research field. Its investigation reveals insights and pecularities that can be incomprehensible, surprising, inspiring, or full of potential. To answer a question related to boron always means that there are hundreds of new ones. Boron science is fun.ISBB

Materials chemistry

Solid state chemistry leads to substances with special properties related to the correlation of electrons and phonons in bulk material. Such properties like electrical or thermal conductivities, colour, or magnetism lead the way to functionality and new materials. Our interdisciplinary materials chemistry research includes a huge variety of classes of substances and possible applications. Examples are phosphors for thermometry, ultrahard materials, electrocatalysts, and magnetic materials.

Focus on synthesis and characterization

The Albert group has excellent and broad experience in a huge variety of preparation techniques and analytical methods, e.g.:

  • ultra high-temperature solid state reactions ( > 2500 K)
  • low-temperature solution chemistry ( < 240 K)
  • spark plasma sintering
  • electronmicroscopy and EDX
  • thermal analysis (DSC, DTA-TGA)
  • electrical properties, measurement of Seebeck coefficients ( < 1300 K)
  • X-ray diffraction analysis
