Interested in doing research in organic chemistry?
In our group, we work on the development of new methods for the construction of C-C bonds.
We have a strong interest in organometallic and organoboron chemistry, that we apply – for example – to the functionalization of 4-membered ring systems such as cyclobutanes, azetidines and thietanes, motifs of increasing interest in drug discovery programs.
For the first time, we demonstrated that organocerium reagents can be used in fast and functional group tolerant triple halogen-metal exchange reactions. Such reagents possess reactivity properties that can balance those of classical organometallics based on lithium or magnesium species.
In parallel, we recently established the concepts of electrocoupling and photocoupling that allow for the coupling reaction of two aryl moieties wihtout the necessity of using expensive and ofter toxic transition metal catalysts.
We are currently looking for B.Sc. and Master interns to work on:
- electrocoupling and photocatalyzed reactions
- functionalization of cyclobutanes, azetidines and thietanes
In our group, you will get familiar with organic and organometallic chemistry, electrosynthesis and photocatalysis.
