Research Areas

Polymer materials are an essential part of our (everyday) lives and at the same time the key to a sustainable future. They have exceptional chemical and mechanical properties, are extremely light and hygienic. As a result, they cover a very wide range of applications and are irreplaceable in the energy transition and the healthcare sector, among others. In addition, they are usually reusable or recyclable – whether this path is executed is ultimately decided by economic efficiency.

We conduct research in the field of polymer reaction engineering – the intersection between technical and macromolecular chemistry.

  • Polymerization technology
  • Reactive, disperse systems
  • Modeling of polymerization processes with respect to kinetics, flow (CFD) and microstructure
  • Reactor design and optimization via 3D printing
  • Sustainability of polymerization processes – and products

Experiments and simulations are combined to link the fundamental issues of polymerization chemistry, such as kinetics, with the resulting polymer microstructure and ultimately the application. This enables sustainable process and product development.
