CRC Iron, upgraded!

Iron is a versatile, ubiquitous, cheap and sustainable transition metal with unique properties and high reactivity. The CRC initiative Iron, upgraded! aims at manipulating iron’s environment in such a way that it becomes a selective, versatile and valuable substitute for rare, toxic or critical metals. Three phases are envisioned: (1) Understand Iron, (2) Tune Iron, (3) Optimize Iron.

The series of Lichtenberg high-performance computers at TU Darmstadt provides computing resources for researchers from academia and public research facilities in Germany. The multifaceted architecture of the high performance computer allows for flexible and efficient scientific computing, especially for computationally intensive applications.

Surface Science

The Surface Science Laboratory was founded in 1997 as one of the first divisions in the newly founded Materials Science Department at TU Darmstadt and was headed by Prof. Dr. Wolfram Jaegermann until March 2020. Since April 2020, Prof. Dr. Jan Philipp Hofmann is leading the Surface Science Laboratory.

The Modeling for Theoretical Catalysis Group conducts research into surface chemistry/ physics and fundamentals of catalytic reactions at metal surfaces, metal oxide surfaces and supported oxide and metal catalysts.

Aurbach Lab at Bar Ilan University, Ramat Gan, Israel

The lab focuses on electrochemistry, energy storage, and advanced materials. It is led by Professor Doron Aurbach who founded the electrochemistry group at the university in 1985 and is ranked among the most cited researchers worldwide with over 900 published papers. Prof. Aurbach collaborates worldwide and leads the Israel National Research Center for Electrochemical Propulsion (INREP), which encompasses over 20 research groups from several institutions.
