For the first time, the German Medicinal Chemistry community's flagship conference, the Frontiers in Medicinal Chemistry 2021, took place as an online event from March 8th-10th, 2021. Despite these restrictions, new attendance records were set, with more than 360 participants from over 10 countries. Organized by the TU Darmstadt and the Society of German Chemists, the German Pharmaceutical Society, and the Swiss Chemical Society and supported by more than 14 sponsors, the focus was set on the hot trends of drug discovery, where the latest findings were presented. “A particularly positive trend was the intense and active participation of pharmaceutical companies,” said Prof. Felix Hausch, head of the organizational committee. “In this way, a lively exchange between academic and industrial drug research could be achieved.” Another highlight was a series of lectures in which emerging young independent scientists could present their innovative projects. A highly valued item of the program was also the meet-and-mingle sessions. In which the participants were able to discuss with the speakers in small groups in a communication channel that was extensively used for networking. The conference was crowned with a series of workshops in which, among other things, the students were able to discuss with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry in a speed-dating-like process.
