WPPRE 2024 in Lyon

2024/10/30

The 12th PhD-Student Workshop of the EFCE Working Party on Polymer Reaction Engineering (WPPRE) took place from October 30 to 31, 2024 at the École Supérieure Chimie Physique Électronique de Lyon (CPE Lyon). The WPPRE provides a framework for young scientists in the field of polymer reaction engineering to exchange ideas with each other and to establish contacts in industry.

The organizing committee of the workshop consisted of Professor Busch, Kristina Zentel, Svenja Albus and Laura Dietrich from the working group Busch, as well as Professor McKenna and his working group from the CP2M (Catalyse, Polymérisation, Procédés et Matériaux) at the University of Lyon. The 51 participants included over 30 PhD candidates from 14 different universities. There were also 11 representatives from industry who presented their companies and contributed by sponsoring too the financing of the workshop. For the WPPRE 2024, these were the companies Lummus Technology, CiT, BASF, Borealis, Synthomer, SABIC, Michelin, and Wiley, as well as the Institute IFP Energies Nouvelles und das Institut Carnot Ingénierie@Lyon. A total of 26 presentations and 17 posters were contributed to the workshop.

In addition to the presentations, the poster sessions and the joint lunches and dinners offered the opportunity to network with other participants from science and industry. The city tour of Lyon rounded off the program. For many of the working group Busch, the WPPRE is the first conference they have attended during the course of their PhD studies. The following posters and lectures were contributed by the working group:

  • Investigation of the Decomposition Kinetics of Peroxide Cocktails applying Transitiometry and Performance of Peroxide Cocktails in the High-Pressure Polyethylene Process, Svenja Albus, Markus Busch (lecture)
  • Visualization of Combined Relief and Decomposition Phenomena of Polymerization Mixtures in Supercritical Fluids, Jarne Berning, Aaron Röblitz, Markus Busch (poster)
  • Polymerization of Ethene and Acrylic Acid under High-Pressure Conditions, Laura Dietrich, Markus Busch (poster)
  • Investigation of the Single- and Two-Phase Flow in High-Pressure Relief Systems, Daniel Dyck, Markus Busch (lecture)
  • Modeling Kinetics of the High-Pressure Copolymerization of Ethene and Acrylic Acid, Alina Weber, Markus Busch (poster)
  • Kinetic Investigations of Catalytic Solution Copolymerization of Ethene and 1-Octene, Phillip Weigmann, Markus Busch (poster)
