Advanced Design Project 2020

2020/02/24

During this year's project planning course from 24.02.20 to 06.03.20, students from various universities dealt with the topic of plastics recycling. The focus was on planning a pyrolysis plant.

About 70 students participated in the advanced design project, including technical chemists from the Technical University of Darmstadt, chemical engineers from Provadis University, and American students from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The participants dealt with various topics related to the pyrolysis plant, such as mass balance, reactor design and kinetics, separation, pumps and compressors, heat integration, costs, safety and research. Two guest lectures were offered during the course to give the students a better overview of the topic circular economy. Prof. Lederer from the TU Darmstadt provided a view from an economic perspective with the lecture: “International climate policy – how does it work and why does it (not) fail?” Dr. Pieper from the TU Dresden gave a lecture on related process technologies.
