Facilities

Our experimental work is focused on polymer synthesis and safety studies of polymerization systems under high pressures. We operate mini-plants for polymer synthesis up to 300 °C and 3000 bar. Phase equilibria can be investigated in our high pressure view cell. Calorimetric measurements at high pressures and temperatures are performed in the so-called transitiometer. Moreover, comprehensive analytical methods for the characterization of polymer samples are available.

Experimental Equipment

Due to safety reasons the used experimental equipment is located in high-pressure bunkers and is controlled from outside. The core of each setup is a stirred or unstirred autoclave, which is fed by one of our high-pressure compressors with ethene.

High-Pressure Compressors

We are using three compressors – two membrane and a hydraulic piston compressor. Those supply our test rigs with etyhlene at presssures up to 3000 bar. Furthermore, there is the possibility to feed liquefied gases with a pump into the third stage of one of the membrane compressors.

Analytics

Our analytic-lab allows the characterization of polymer samples with several methods: gel-permeation-chromatography (GPC), Melt flow index measurements (MFI), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) und infrared spectroscopy (IR).
