The university environment is characterised by hierarchies that often dictate a clear role-relationship between members of different status groups and models a certain narrow ideal career path. Many of us find it difficult at some point to deal with conflicts within these constellations and/ or to take the step out of this system into another job confidently.
Women and non-binary people, who have historically been more affected by exclusion and are often told that they have to lean into existing (conflict) cultures, may be especially happy to receive support in dealing with this.
Dr. Johanna Lauer, who has a background in chemistry herself, offered a job application and assertiveness training for the department. She acted as a trainer for and taught aspects of the Red Liner Model©. The aim was to convey a new perspective on interpersonal dynamics and strategies for action in order to prevent conflicts and promote empathic, constructive interaction. Dr. Lauer tailored the specific content and working examples of the day-long workshop to the needs of the participants who could indicate upon registering, which aspects they were particularly interested in.
