The General Assembly on Equity took place on 02 May 2024 in L6|01 4+23.

The new confidential advisors in the event of hierarchical conflicts and power abuse , Nico van der Vegt, Marion Trautmann and Christian Hess (deputy), briefly introduced themselves and their office.

Prof Dr Doris Segets, Professor of Process Engineering of Electrochemical Functional Materials at the University of Duisburg-Essen, spoke about the abuse of power in academia. She explained the effects of power imbalances and initiatives to counteract them and emphasised the value of diversity for scientific progress, which can only develop successfully if it is not restricted by abusive conditions.

The recording of the presentation and the accompanying slides can be found in the following access-protected section.

The equal opportunities team briefly presented the work of the past year, including the revision of the guidelines for the allocation of women's advancement funds, and invited everyone to apply for funding for measures in favour of gender equality and equal opportunities and to make use of the programme and material offers provided by the department.

At the subsequent women's plenary session, Maria Voß and Miriam Seebach were dismissed from the office of Equal Opportunities Officer and Sarah Brandner, research assistant in the Lermyte working group, was nominated as a future colleague for Anne Volkenhoff and Ulrike Kramm. Concept board with brainstormed ideas on action items for equity from the general assembly

On 17.04.23 from 10:00am, the Equal Opportunities Team invited all faculty members to the annual general assembly on equity.

Under the title Making a/my contribution: For more equity and diversity in our department, Jennifer J* Moos (no pronouns and j* or jay) presented positive examples of commitment in favour of more equal opportunities from various universities. Together with the participants, j* developed initial ideas for their own options for action.

The event demonstrated the extent to which commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging achieves good things not only for members of marginalised groups, but for all of us. Practical examples were used to break down fears of contact and encourage participants to consciously fulfil their role within the department and support each other in creating the most supportive environment possible for everyone.

The Equal Opportunities Team then briefly presented its activities over the past year before the women's general assembly confirmed the continuation of the role of Equal Opportunities Officers by Maria Voß, Dr Anne Volkenhoff, Miriam Seebach and Prof. Dr Ulrike Kramm.
