Central tasks of the Collaborative Research Center

In the Z-Project, the central tasks of the Collaborative Research Center are coordinated. These include data management, career promotion, equality and family friendliness, and the organization of events of the Collaborative Research Center.

In the field of data management, the aim is to generate the appropriate technical equipment for the research data management of the Collaborative Research Center (electronic laboratory notebooks that are compatible with one another, shared storage for research data, a system for exchanging data). To achieve this, so-called open access resources will be used, a research data management office will be set up and a continuous training in the field of research data management will be guaranteed. The data created is saved and made accessible in accordance with the FAIR principle.

The career promotion relates to young scientists at all career levels and includes, among other things, learning data competence, research data management, good research practice, various methods and training in soft skills such as communication, presentation and team skills. In addition, young scientists can network with each other, for example to learn how to present their own research to a non-specialist audience, and they receive support for further career development.

In order to make the Collaborative Research Center family-friendly, CRC seminars are held during core working hours, a childcare concept is drawn up and a parent-child room is offered, as well as support for pregnant women and nursing mothers, e.g. in the form of student support for laboratory work. In the area of equality and family friendliness, the Collaborative Research Center also offers female scientists the opportunity to have career talks with internal and external researchers at a higher career level (mentoring), to take part in career coaching or to receive financial support, e.g. to ensure childcare on CRC-related business trips.

Organization of events: The Collaborative Research Center benefits from the networking of researchers and exchange ideas. An annual general meeting brings all people involved in the CRC into an intensive exchange. In addition, an CRC seminar series is offered, in which external speakers are invited to the topic blocks A, B, C as well as to methods and overarching topics. Another seminar series specially developed for doctoral students and postdocs offers space for professional exchange, soft skill development and networking. In addition, summer schools and symposia organized by doctoral students will be part of the CRC event program.
