Polymer Reaction Engineering
Cooperations with partners from industry and science play an essential role within our working group. Our partners are located all over the world. In the following some examples of this cooperation are shown.
As part of the long-standing cooperation between the working group Busch and SCG, the project meeting took place in Rayong from June 22 to July 1. In addition to discussing the status and future of the project, the group was able to exchange ideas with various experts from the areas of management, quality control and research. The group also had the opportunity to visit the laboratories and the LDPE production plant there. We would like to thank SCG for the invitation!
In the Advanced Design Project of the winter semester 2023/24, students from four different universities in Darmstadt, Frankfurt and the USA came together to jointly plan LyondellBasell's HDPE plant in Wesseling and then solve an optimization question. Afterwards, the participants had the opportunity to present their results to the project partner on an excursion and to visit the plant as well as and the steam cracker. Many thanks to LyondellBasell for the invitation to Wesseling!
From 25th to 28th June 2019, the Borealis AG invited the working group to its industrial site in Stenungsund. In short presentations, the members of the working group presented their current research progress, which was the starting point for questions and discussion. The highlight was a tour of the cracker and the world-scale LD 5 plant for the production of LDPE. Special thanks to Borealis AG and Denis Yalalov for making the excursion possible and for their hospitality.
From 28th June to 2nd July 2018, the stay in Thailand due to the UHDE conference was used to visit the SCG for a project meeting. In addition to numerous discussions and the elaboration of new ideas for future work, the SCG facilities for LDPE production in Rayong were visited.
During the project planning course in winter term 2015/2016, students from various universities designed a plant for the production of LDPE as well as the low-temperature distillation for the processing of the required ethene. In the following excursion the students had the opportunity to present their results to the cooperation partner Saudi Basic Industries Corporation. In this context, an LDPE plant and a steam cracker at the site Geleen/Netherlands were visited. We thank Saudi Basic Industries Corporation for the great support and hospitality.
